Mentawai Medical Assistance Program
Due to its remote location, obtaining medical treatment in the Mentawais can be a challenge to say the least. Most of the medical treatment that the first world takes for granted does not exist in the Mentawais. Although there is better treatment available on the mainland, each year countless Mentawaiian people get very sick or die only because they don't seek treatment. The financial burden is too much for them, so they just sit in their village and hope for the best. The goal of the Kandui Care Foundation is to take down that barrier and ensure their motivation is to always contact us so we can help get them the treatment they need.
Mentawai Medical Assistance Programs
The goal of our Medical Assistance program is to motivate any Mentawai person who is sick or injured to seek treatment. Local clinics are not equipped enough to handle serius injuries or illness, so Mentawaiians need to get 90 miles across the ocean in order to get proper care. And although that care is usually covered by government provided insurance, people still need to get transport to the mainland, then feed themselves and have a place to stay while they are being treated, all of which takes money. Transportation, food, and a place to stay. That small amount of money by Western standards is enough for people to not seek help, and as a result many people needlessly suffer and even die. That is where the Kandui Care Foundation jumps in. We provide that financial bridge in order for people to get care. Just a very small amount of money goes a long, long way. So please consider giving.
